Jolion Hybrid
Looking for a hybrid option in the compact SUV market? The Haval Jolion Hybrid may just be the perfect fit for you. Despite only being offered in one well-specified grade, it packs more power than its Toyota competitor and is priced to undercut its rivals. And while it does come at a higher price point than the equivalent petrol model, its long-term fuel savings may just make up for it. So if you're interested in making more eco-friendly choices without sacrificing power and features, consider taking the Haval Jolion Hybrid for a spin. It definitely shouldn't disappoint.
It's true that the Jolion carries a premium price tag, but it's worth every penny. When compared to other vehicles in its class, the Jolion offers more bang for your buck. It may be aligned with the Toyota RAV4, but it has more standard equipment. And while the Corolla Cross is a similar size, it just can't compete with the Jolion's top-of-the-line features. Even the Kia Niro, which is priced higher than the Jolion, falls short in terms of what it has to offer. So while it may cost a bit more initially, the Jolion proves to be a good value in the long run.
The Haval Jolion has a lot going for it in terms of interior design and technology. The most noteworthy aspect is the high-end fit out, which includes faux leather seats and a stylish dashboard with responsive screens. It's clear that attention was paid to the little details as well, such as the solid door pulls and transmission tunnel. Overall, it offers a sleek and modern atmosphere while also being functional and comfortable. Even compared to other popular SUV options, the Jolion's interior truly stands out.
It’s capable of running the electric motors on their own between a standstill and 65kph under low to normal acceleration input at lower gear ranges. As the speed increases above 65kph and it settles into higher gears the Jolion will adjust the engine working load by engaging the petrol power unit.
The Jolion Hybrid uses a claimed 5.0L/100km on the combined cycle. However, the observed range we saw was closer to 5.3 litres per 100km on a mixed city and highway loop which is still remarkable consumption for a vehicle of the Jolion’s size.
Behind the wheel it is at its most comfortable in the city, where the powerful electric motor is able to handle the bulk of driving. It moves off the mark and generally accelerates to between 30 and 50km/h on electric power, and when the petrol engine does fire on light throttle inputs it’s close to silent. It feels as though you can push a bit harder in the Haval than some of its rivals before the electric motor runs out of puff, which is of real benefit if you live between 0 and 60km/h most of the time.
What’s our final thoughts? At first glance, the Jolion HEV might not seem like a bargain at its $40,000 price tag. However, when compared to the limited supply and higher prices of similar hybrids from Toyota and Kia, it's clear that this car is a compelling option. Not only is the powertrain punchy and refined in city driving, but it also brings fuel economy improvements on the highway compared to its gas-only siblings. And with a generous standard equipment list, you get a lot of bang for your buck in terms of both performance and practicality. So if you're looking for a hybrid SUV with space for both people and their things, the Jolion HEV should definitely be on your radar.
